So long Venice…

We came to the end of our run of Venice Preserved on Sept 7th. I couldn’t have hoped for a finer bunch to share the experience with. And I have to say a particular thank you to the wonders that are Jodie McNee and Stephen Fewell, there aren’t two better people to share all the emotional turmoil of Otway’s mad sad love story with. Thank god for all the laughs we managed to have.

A play as little known and with no mega-mega stars (sorry Les) like Venice Preserved, takes a bit of selling. I thought I’d share some of the RSC’s usual and some unusual marketing materials.

We’ve had such a great response so far, a really young crowd coming to the show. It’s wonderful to have such a buzzy and excited audience in the Swan to share our production with.

The RSC have made some fun videos about the show. In some of them I think we may not have been taking it all particularly seriously. I mean it is a Tragedy after all.

A Summer in Venice

Well, we’re open.

Thank goodness for that. It’s been a relatively uneventful, stress free few weeks – but tech, previews and press is always a load ready to be shed.
I’ve tried to steer clear of reviews, but I hear there not too bad and we’re hearing lovely things from people who have seen the show.

Royal Academy of Dramatic Auditioning… I really shouldn’t write a blog.

13 years ago I went to London for my 2nd round RADA audition. I remember it so clearly, I remember exactly what I wore (the same thing I wore to all my auditions like some weird audition uniform), I remember all the panel (yes all of you), I remember getting a laugh (a laugh!) in my modern speech, I remember singing my song and thinking, “thank fuck, you remembered the words!”… but most of all I remember how terrifying and important it all was.

Venice Preserved for a couple of weeks…

Once opened use before Sept 7th.

So that’s it. We’ve finished our London based rehearsals. Two runs of the show in the room last week, and now most of the company head to Stratford to open Provoked Wife whilst some of us get a break of two and a bit weeks. The company’s Venice Preserves must hold out till mid May.

It’s shaping up to be a bit of an emotionally traumatic one this. When choices made for love go disastrously wrong… would be a crap strap line.

A Tragic Love Adventure

So we’re well underway into Venice Preserved rehearsals…

It’s been a busy old time, not least because Mariam and I have had a little girl. Carys, born 4 weeks before the end of our time here in London. (She very graciously stuck to our deal, and let me learn my lines before she came). She’s gorgeous and we love her.

Off on our Adventures.

Three’s Company’s Adventure Department is nearly open for business.

We had a busy but brilliant three days recording the first season of our new comedy podcast.

Thanks to a stellar line up of mates Danny Miller, Siobhan Harrison, Jade Croot, Mariam Bell, Ashlea Kaye, Paul Dodds, Greg Snowden, Joanna Bending… my mum… (and more to come, we’ve some exciting gaps to fill), we are finally on our way to releasing the first series of Three’s Company’s Adventure Department.
